This piece is one of my least favorites because of how blatently straight forward it is. It was for an article about the Catholic Priest Child Abuse scandal. I kind of felt like I was whoring out my services with this one, but it just happens to be one of those pieces that I hate and everyone else likes. Go figure.
As a side note, the model for the boy is closely related to the model I used for the Russell piece.
it's hard doing something you don't fully agree with i guess? like a sell out of sorts. did you have other ideas and just couldn't express them or were you just not into it from the start, like a chore to do?
It's never a chore for me, but sometimes clients insist on elements, or the removal of elements, or the placement of elements that are way too obvious, and since they are paying the bill, I do give a little here and there. This one I think I gave too much. It's nice to have a well mixed stew of symbolism, a little of the slightly obvious to entice the viewer and draw them in, some slightly more complex to get the viewer to think about the piece while they are visually swimming through it, and heavy handed metaphorical representations that leave with the viewer.
I should add that it's the haircut that does it, the ear, the facial expression. Plus the shirt collar + tie. The "priest" isn't really the interesting thing in this picture.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
